The Cornhuskers new staff had several talented visitors on campus this weekend taking in all that Nebraska has to offer With a dramatic change in offensive styles, Frost and his staff are searching for several difference makers and landed two big ones on Sunday.
Frost highlighted his first full weekend at Nebraska with a bang this evening as the Huskers landed their first two commitments in the new 2018 recruiting class in 4-star S/DB C.J. Smith from Rivera Beach, FL and speedy junior college 3-star WR Jaron Woodyard from Arizona Western College in Yuma, AZ.
Smith projects at the safety position in college and with his tall 6’3 frame it’s possible he could end up sliding down to an outside linebacker position one day. However, in our opinion that would be a waste of his skillset as Smith is athletic and has a knack reading a quarterbacks eyes and freely flowing to the ball. In addition to being able to locate the ball, Smith isn’t afraid to step in and lower his shoulder to make a big tackle. His sense of timing along with his knack for the ball leads to several well-timed hits on film that lead to incompletions or a forced fumble.
Woodyard, on the other hand, is a speedy wide receiver who projects well at the slot position and can easily take the top off of a defense. With a recorded 10.68s 100m dash recorded in high school, Woodyard only needs to get a single step in order to slip behind a defense. But speed isn’t everything either as Woodyard has exceptional hand-eye coordination and quickness to go along with it.
Both of these pickups were a terrific start for Frost and co. With several other visitors all reporting that they had a good time, these two won’t be the only ones who wind up committing to the Huskers.

With a total of 7 visitors taking in Nebraska this weekend, there’s still a very good chance that the Huskers could secure a verbal commitment from several other prospects who visited including 4-star quarterback Adrian Martinez. With the early signing period only a few days away expect to hear more noise from a few of the visitors as the signing period gets closer.
