Welcome back to your periodic official update! To review, these articles serve as a means to update fans on the current number of official visits used, and who will be visiting for the upcoming home game.
I’ll also be breaking down who has visited in Mike Riley’s previous years, as well as the commitments from said visitors.
Today we’ll be focusing on week 5 of Nebraska’s schedule for 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Week 5: Nebraska played Illinois in Champaign.
Official visit count: 8
Week 5: It appears weeks 4 and 5 are Illinois week, as in 2016 Illinois traveled to Lincoln to face the Huskers. Octobers 1st would see a list of 7 visitors and 28 stars.
- Joseph Lewis WR – USC
- Jaylon Johnson CB – Utah
- Chevin Calloway CB – Arkansas
- Isaiah Hodgins WR – Oregon State
- Rahyme Johnson ATH – UCLA
- Jaevon McQuitty WR – Nebraska
- Broc Bando OG – Nebraska
While Nebraska only landed 2 of the above visitors, the Huskers were in it till the very end with their most prized recruit, Joseph Lewis. His decision came down to the wire, as he ultimately ended up staying home to play for a USC team that quickly turned things around. Lewis, a 5-star talent with an NFL future, had nothing but positive reviews for Nebraska and position coach Keith Williams. He even rated the visit a “9.5 out of 10.”
Official visit count: 25
Week 5: For as long as I can remember, I don’t know if any game held so much weight on a program as this. Win against Wisconsin, no matter the score, and Nebraska has an incredibly good chance of stealing the B1G West title as well as snagging numerous recruits in attendance. Lose horribly and the growing TMZ style rumblings of Scott Frost taking over increase at an even greater rate, as Mike Riley’s seat could begin to get very warm. A situation recruits, nd those recruiting against Nebraska will undoubtedly monitor closely.
Either way, this weekend will define much going forward. The list of visitors includes quite a few Nebraska commits, but also a small group of highly rated athletes Big Red has been clamoring for.
- Micah Parsons WDE/OLB uncommitted
- Tommy Bush WR uncommitted
- Brian Hightower WR – Miami commit
- TJ Pledger RB – Oklahoma commit
- Joshua Moore WR – Nebraska commit
- Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles DB – Nebraska commit
- Chase Williams DB – Nebraska commit
- Cameron Brown WR – Nebraska commit
- Will Farniok C – Nebraska commit
- Tate Wildeman WDE – Nebraska commit
- Barrett Pickering K – Nebraska commit
Over half of the 11 confirmed visitors are Husker commits, and that was by design. Moore and Bookie are some of the strongest peer recruiters in not just the Nebraska class, but the entire country. Bush, Hightower, Pledger, and Parsons are right at the top of each position list, and you can expect every commit/player will never let them feel as if they’re anywhere but home.
One of the ways the staff is attacking the weekend is through the recruits’ stomachs. It appears they’re going to be hosting the prospects at arguably Lincoln’s best BBQ joint, Phat Jacks BBQ.
Both Micah Parsons and T.J. Pledger visited for Friday Night Lights, while this will be Brian Hightower and Tommy Bush’s first visit to Lincoln. Bush, believed to be a Longhorn lean, could be looking outside of the Lonestar State as it’s unsure whether Texas will be taking another WR, and if Bush is their top option.

It’s an important weekend on campus as a whole, but even more important under the lights. A win against Wisconsin could blow these targets out of the water, and give Riley the much-needed firepower to combat the negative press being used against him.
In summary, the number of official visitors (and subsequent commitments later in the season for 2015/2016) through week 5 of Mike Riley’s first three seasons are as follows:
- 2015: 8 officials (3 signees)
- 2016: 25 officials (11 signees)
- 2017: 19 officials*
*subject to change based on surprise officials or updates
