Rutgers – What you need to know

The Huskers are set to take on the Scarlet Knights this weekend in Lincoln, NE after a 21-17 loss to Northern Illinois last weekend.

Game Details:

  • Kickoff: Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m. ET
  • TV Channel: Big Ten Network
  • Spread: Nebraska -12.5

Both teams sit at 1-2 and the Scarlet Knights have a capable 1-2 punch at quarterback in Jonathan Lewis and Kyle Bolin, who transferred in from Louisville last season.

Bolin is the named starter and the more proficient passer of the two while Lewis shines on the ground racking up 4 touchdowns with his feet last weekend against Morgan State.

The Scarlet Knights may not be talented but their defense has improved under head coach Chris Ash giving up just 14.6 points per game right now but still has some work to do.

Nebraska should have the talent and depth to overcome the Scarlet Knights however they’ve struggled to get a fast start in all three games this season. With injuries to three offensive linemen, the Huskers will be calling on true freshman Brenden Jaimes to hold down the right tackle position and Michael Decker to step up at center.

The Huskers will also look for starting quarterback Tanner Lee to rebound this week after throwing 7 interceptions to 6 touchdowns so far this season. While he’s played behind a rocky offensive line the changes this week could potentially help the line finally gel.

Look for the Huskers to rely on the ground game a bit more this weekend and feature running backs Mikale Wilbon and Devine Ozigbo if the offensive line finds early success against Rutgers.

Prediction:  Huskers 31 – Rutgers 16
