Updating the official visitors – Northern Illinois

Welcome back to your periodic official visitor update! To review, this serves as a means to update fans who follow recruiting closely on the current number of official visits used, and who will be visiting for the upcoming home game.

I’ll also be breaking down who has visited in Mike Riley’s recruiting cycles, as well as the commitments from said visitors.

This week we’ll be reviewing week 2-3 of the regular season for 2015, 2016, and 2017.

2015

Week 2: Nebraska welcomed South Alabama to Lincoln, and hosted the following official visitors that weekend.

Attendees:

Attendees who signed with Nebraska:

Of the four official visitors, two (Alexander, Grim) ended up committing and signing with the Huskers.

Week 3: @ Miami (no visitors)

Official visit count: 7

2016

Week 2: The Huskers hosted Wyoming and did not have an official visitor in attendance.

Week 3: Oregon came to town, and with the exciting matchup, Riley had many important visitors.

Attendees:

Attendees who signed with Nebraska:

While five out of eight ended up signing with Nebraska, this week’s visitor list actually saw six recruits commit to the Huskers throughout the year. Note: Robert Porcher IV would commit, then later de-commit sighting proximity to home as the reason.

Official visit count: 18

2017

Week 2: @ Oregon (no visitors).

Week 3: The Huskers are slated to host four visitors when they battle Northern Illinois in Memorial Stadium.

Attendees:

Commitment Watch: David Alston, a 3-star DE/OLB from Minnesota, has recently received crystal ball predictions to Nebraska, and his official visit could definitely lead to him committing. There’s been some discussion about whether he would be a “take” before Nebraska’s other linebacker targets, but given his measurables, I believe Nebraska would welcome him with open arms.

There’s no question that the rest of the visitors would be welcome if they decided to pull the trigger. With that being said, both Bryan Addison and Kobe Smith are looking to take all their officials before making a decision.

Update on Chris Curry: 4-star FL running back Chris Curry was also slated to visit the Big Red this weekend however due to Hurricane Irma, it would appear that his visit will no longer take place per 247 sports. Curry remains committed to LSU.

Unofficial Visitors: At this time, there isn’t a confirmed list of unofficial visitors this week, though we assume some Nebraska walk-on targets, as well as in-state commits such as Cameron Jurgens, Masry Mapieu, or Garrett Nelson may make an appearance.

Official visit count: 5

In summary, the number of official visitors (and subsequent commitments later in the season) through week 3 of Mike Riley’s first three seasons are as follows:

  • 2015: 7 officials (3 signees)
  • 2016: 18 officials (9 signees)
  • 2017: 5 officials*

*Subject to change based on surprise official visits or updates
